Look up a Hawaii plate

See whether other drivers have filed reports against a plate.

A plate with no reports comes back clean — that is the common result, and it is not an error.

Avoidance & safety rules

Does a Jerk Alert report reach the Hawaii Department of Transportation / county examiners of drivers? No — Jerk Alert filings are community records between drivers. They never reach the Hawaii Department of Transportation / county examiners of drivers, any other government body, or law enforcement, and they do not replace the calls in sections 1 and 2. If you are in danger, call 911. The Terms prohibit following, approaching, or identifying another driver on any Jerk Alert platform.

Hawaii bad driver reporting & safety guide

1. If it is happening now immediate danger

Emergency hotlines

  • 911 — for a driver who is an active danger to other people right now. That is a police matter, and no app is a substitute for the call.
  • No Hawaii-specific line is listed here. We publish a patrol code only when a state police or DOT page carries it.

2. Reporting to Hawaii law enforcement after the fact

Neither the hotlines above nor anything in this section is the licence-review route in section 3, and nothing filed on Jerk Alert reaches any of them.

Who takes the report in Hawaii

  • The non-emergency line of the Hawaii county police department with jurisdiction where it happened takes reports of dangerous driving that has already happened.
  • Bring: the plate (full or partial) and state, the vehicle’s make, model and colour, the location, the date and time, the direction of travel, and what you saw.
  • Expect a record rather than a ticket. An officer who did not witness the driving usually cannot cite for it, and what each agency acts on varies.

3. State DMV & licensing agency review

Public reporting accessNo — citizens cannot report drivers to this agency

A review of a driver’s licence can only be started by someone in a defined role.

Who can file: Not a member of the public. HAR 19-122-352(a) names the written information a county examiner of drivers may act on: from federal, state or county police authorities; licensed medical doctors and optometrists; federal or state courts; or the examiner's own authorised representatives. A letter from a member of the public is not on that list, and no county publishes a citizen reporting form.

Administrative fitness process

How a review starts and runs once someone in a qualifying role refers the driver.

Form
Medical Report DOT-H2058 — completed by the driver's physician once a review has begun; there is no citizen form

What can the Hawaii Department of Transportation / county examiners of drivers do once a review starts?

  • A report reaches the examiner of drivers only through police, a licensed doctor or optometrist, a court, or the examiner's own staff; on receiving such information the examiner may initiate the appropriate action (HAR 19-122-352).
  • Where the examiner of drivers has reasonable cause beyond self-disclosure to believe a medical condition may prevent safe operation, they may require a completed medical report and other examinations by a licensed medical doctor or other competent authority.
  • The completed DOT-H2058 must be submitted within 30 calendar days and may go to the State Medical Advisory Board for review and recommendation; failure to comply may result in cancellation of the licence (HAR 19-122-355).
  • The examiner of drivers is responsible for the licensing action; the medical report is strictly advisory.
  • The cost of such examinations is borne by the driver.

Hawaii is one of 18 of 51 US jurisdictions where a witness unrelated to the driver has no confirmed way to report them to the licensing agency (the 51-location study). That gap is one reason Jerk Alert exists.
